Sir Ernest Shackleton prepares for his next expedition

Sir Ernest Shackleton is about to make a preliminary trial expedition to under polar conditions, in preparation for his expedition to the Antarctic this year. His team will leave in polar kit and go out on Norwegian glaciers and during the journey live on actual sledging rations and the effect of these on Sir Ernest and his companions will be tested in the most detailed fashion.

The ship which Sir Ernest will use for his expedition, the Endurance is almost complete and will arrive in the London docks in the next month and leave for the expedition in August. The second ship, the Aurora will sail direct to the Antarctic in November.

The artist Mr George Marston has been included in Sir Ernest’s staff for the expedition. Mr Marston accompanied Shackleton on his famous expedition of 1907-1909.
