Fire Brigade Fails to Prevent House Burning Down

Published: 22 June 1913

An unoccupied house, owned by Dennis Patterson, caught fire yesterday. The house, on Newbridge Road, Naas, was destroyed by the fire. Today the Urban Council heard that the Fire Brigade, although in attendance quickly, took half an hour to find a hydrant. Once they had connected the hose to the hydrant, the hose split rendering it useless and the Brigade were then helpless in trying to prevent the total destruction of the building. The meeting was told that such a state of affairs was a disgrace. It was resolved that a new hose would be bought for the Fire Brigade.
