Figures Show Emigration Increasing

Published: 11 June 1913

Figures released today show that the rate of emigration out of Ireland is increasing. This is a change to the pattern of the last three years which saw a steady decrease in the numbers leaving. In the first five months of this year 15,961 people left the country, an increase of 1,891 on the figures for the same period last year. The largest number of departures came from Ulster, with 6,455 individuals leaving. While the United States remains the most popular destination, the numbers for Canada are growing rapidly.
