Drowned Limavady Woman was Pregnant

Published: 16 June 1913

The coroners court heard today how the bodies of 28 year old Sophia McLoskey and 29 year old Robert McLaughlin were found drowned in the River Roe. The two worked for a local farmer, William Wilson, who attested to their good character and stated that he had observed no intimacy between them. McLoskey was unmarried, but a post-mortem had shown she was in fact pregnant. McLaughlin was married with three children. His widow told the coroner that she did not suspect any intimacy between the deceased. It is not known how the pair entered the water, and there were no signs of struggle. The jury returned a verdict of 'Found Drowned', stating that they believed the deaths to have been a double suicide.
