Connemara Relief Fund Raises £1,834

Published: 4 July 1913

The Irish Independent Relief Fund for the distressed people of Connemara closed today, and the total raised amounted to £1,834. Money came from across Ireland, and also from England, and the donors were men, women and children of all backgrounds. The newspaper closed the fund by concluding, ‘our appeal on behalf of these long neglected islanders has touched the hearts of the Irish people, and they have responded with true Irish generosity, which, we are sure, will be long and gratefully remembered by those on whose behalf the Fund was inaugurated’.
