Published: 17 March 1914

Madame Anna Pavlova, the famous Russian ballerina had an accident last night while dancing on stage to a full house in St Louis. The accident occurred moments after she walked on stage to dance with her partner Laurent Novikoff, she was seen falling into his arms and those nearest the stage said they heard a cracking sound which was later discovered to be Pavlova’s leg giving way.

Novikoff carried her from the stage to the dressing room where she received medical attention. It is not yet clear whether the dancer has broken a bone or pulled the tendon above her ankle.

It will be determined over the next few days whether she will be able to continue her current tour.
