Tragic death of Leitrim farmer

Published: 3 May 1914

The death of Leitrim farmer, Pat Farrell, has shocked people all around Carrick-on-Shannon. Mr. Farrell was a renowned oarsman who every year won valuable prizes at local regattas.

In recent months, however, he slipped into a depression and last week he went into his bedroom and shot himself in the head. The discharge blew away part of his face, but he remained conscious. Mr. Farrell then disemboweled himself with a razor.
