Police assaulted on Achill Island
The case against several women accused of assaulting members of the Royal Irish Constabulary on Achill Island was adjourned for a month at Achill Petty Sessions.
The women had been charged with assaulting the police during a dispute over land on the island. The request for adjournment came through a letter written by the local parish priest, Fr. Colleran and was agreed to by District Inspector Adderley and Resident Magistrate Jerrard.
In seeking for the case to be adjourned, Fr. Colleran said that he would personally guarantee peace on the island for the rest of the month.
