Quinn blames levy for health hike

Quinn Healthcare is to increase its prices by an average of 15% from next January. The health insurer has more than 500,000 customers.

The company said the increase was due to the health insurance levy introduced by the Government at the start of the year. This was brought in to pay for the cost of insuring older people after the collapse of risk equalisation in 2008.

In a statement, Quinn called on the Government to remove the levy, saying it would freeze its prices for 2010 if this were done.
