5.15pm Markets Update

European stock markets ended the week in negative territory, with the London FTSE losing 0.3% to close at 5,251.41.

In Paris the CAC fell 0.8% percent to 3,729.36 while in Frankfurt the Dax lost 0.7% and finished at 5,663.15.

In Dublin, the ISEQ index of Irish shares bucked the trend, closing up 0.3% to 2,875 points.

AIB closed down 1.5% to €1.71, Bank of Ireland closed up 1.4% to €1.69 while Irish Life and Permanent ended what was a disastrous week for its share price up 1.7%.

In New York, the Dow Jones was down 40 points (0.4%) to 10,293 after two consecutive losing sessions.

The Nasdaq had lost 18 points (0.8%) to 2,139.
