O'Brien's Digicel sees profit jump

Denis O'Brien's mobile phone company Digicel said its half year profits are up 10%.

The Caribbean and Central American operator reported a half year profit (EBITDA) of $364m on revenues of $857m.

Its subscriber numbers rose by 7% to 7.3 million in the last 12 months.

Digicel has been in operation for eight years and is now in 32 markets across the Caribbean, Central America and the South Pacific.

During the year it launched services in the British Virgin Islands, Honduras and Panama.
