Google moves into smartphone ads

Google is to buy smartphone ad specialty firm AdMob in a $750m deal, to be paid for in shares.

Google hopes AdMob will help it more effectively extend its lucrative internet advertising domain into the booming world of mobile devices.

'Mobile advertising has enormous potential as a marketing medium and while this industry is still in the early stages of development, AdMob has already made exceptional progress in a very short time,' said Google vice president of product management Susan Wojcicki.

AdMob was founded in 2006 by Omar Hamoui as a California technology start-up focused on building tools which allow internet advertisers to follow potential customers onto mobile devices.
