EirGrid upbeat on winter electricity

EirGrid, the body which runs the electricity transmission system, says there should be enough capacity to ensure power supplies this winter.

EirGrid today published its winter outlook, which looks at the likely demand for electricity this winter and assesses whether there will be enough electricity generated to meet this demand.

'The analysis indicates that Ireland should have sufficient electricity generation capacity this winter to ensure security of supply is maintained,' it said. More electricity is usually consumed during winter due to colder weather and shorter daylight hours.
