CPL buys Kenny Whelan from receiver

Recruitment group CPL Resources has agreed to buy the business and assets of Kenny Whelan & Associates from the receiver of Newcourt, David Carson of Deloitte.

In a statement, CPL said it believed the deal would secure the position of employees and contractors of Kenny Whelan.

Cork-based Kenny Whelan was acquired by Newcourt in 2006 in a deal which was at the time worth up to €10m.

It specialises in providing outsourced staff and recruitment services to the pharmaceutical and engineering sectors.

Earlier this month, Newcourt asked Bank of Ireland to appoint a receiver to the group, which is involved in businesses such as security and recruitment and employs 3,200 people. The company had been in talks about its debt, having breached some of its lending deals with the bank.
