Hotel exec checked out over CV blunder
Thursday, 14 June 2007 17:41A senior executive and prospective board member at the UK based InterContinental Hotels Group quit today after it was revealed he lied about his academic qualifications.
Patrick Imbardelli, 46, resigned from his position as chief executive of the firm's Asia Pacific division following an internal review, which came shortly after the firm announced its intention to appoint him to the company's board.
A company spokesman said that Mr Imbardelli, who joined the group in 2000, had claimed he had three university degrees, including an undergraduate degree in hotel administration from Victoria University in Australia, and Bachelor and Master degrees from Cornell University in America.
However, during the review the company discovered that Mr Imbardelli in fact did not hold any of the qualifications.
"He had attended some classes but did not graduate," the company spokesman said. "We have taken this matter extremely seriously."
Mr Imbardelli joined Bass, a forerunner to InterContinental Hotels, in 2000 and was appointed as managing director of the Asia Pacific region in 2003.
