Potential for growth in Asian trade - IBEC

Irish businesses consider bureaucracy, customs delays and a lack of intellectual property protection as significant obstacles to trade with Asia, according to a new report from employers group IBEC.

The new report from IBEC, Opening Doors to Asia, which was published today, has called for a range of measures from the Government and the EU Commission to enable Irish companies to benefit from the trade opportunities that exist with Asia.

IBEC said that more information on Asian markets should be available. The employers group also recommended the introduction of direct flights to the region.

Director of Trade Affairs at IBEC, Pat Ivory, said that Irish exports of goods and services to Asia are now valued at approximately €8.5 billion annually. He said that this could increase to €10 billion or more over the next two years.
