Irish Daily Mail targeting female market

watch listen

A new daily newspaper has entered the Irish market, with the launch this morning of the Irish Daily Mail.

The paper is being given away free on its first day as a promotional measure, and will cost 30 cent for the rest of this week. Executive editor Paul Drury, speaking on RTE radio, would not say what the paper would cost after that but said it would be 'aggressively priced'.

Mr Drury said the paper was particularly aiming to appeal to a female audience. He said the new paper was not looking at making profits in the short-term, saying that its parent company Associated Newspapers understood that it was 'a long-term game'.

Mr Drury said there were no immediate plans to sell Irish advertising in the paper.
