ISEQ breaks through key 6,700 level

The ISEQ broke through 6,700 today, closing at 6732, an all-time high for the index.

The Dublin market has gained over 5% since the start of the year, compared with a flat performance in Europe and a fall of over 3 per cent  in the US markets.

Last year the ISEQ gained 26 per cent, partly down to a recovery in Elan shares, but even without Elan, the ISEQ would have been up by 15 per cent in 2004.

Meanwhile the CAC in Paris topped the symbolic 4,000 point level today, above which it has not closed for two and a half years.
