Buy4Now wins major US deal
Wednesday, 13 October 2004Online retailer Buy4Now has announced details of a new €4m contract with US retail giant The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company. The Irish company has been appointed as the exclusive partner to the A&P group of supermarket chains for the provision of an e-grocery solution.
A&P is one of the largest food retailers in the Americas, operating on the East Coast and in Canada with 628 supermarkets operating under 11 different retail banners. It has a workforce of 78,000.
The initial contract will see Buy4Now provide software and specialist consultancy services for two of the A&P retail banners. The first A&P subsidiary to launch their e-grocery offering is the Food Emporium stores in Manhattan in New York.
Buy4Now will supply the Food Emporium with the same software package which it uses in Ireland with Superquinn customers.
'Since establishing Buy4Now four years ago, it has always been an objective of the board to expand our business model into international markets,' commented Ali Murdoch, CEO of Buy4Now.
'Buy4Now as a company has a duel mandate, we will continue to be the home of Ireland's online shopping, but we are also a good example of the new breed of Irish technology companies who can take the their skills and expertise and win business on a bigger stage,' he said.
'We will continue to build on our successful model, enhance our offerings in Ireland and develop our presence on the international stage,' he added.
Buy4Now recorded online revenues of €15m for the year ending March 2004. With the support of Enterprise Ireland, it has invested over €1m in enhancing its software products to enable it to market itself to potential international clients.
