Ryanair sees major expansion of fleet
Monday, 21 January 2002Ryanair is looking to expand its fleet by up to 100 aircraft over the next five years, probably by buying new or used Boeing planes.
Ryanair's rival EasyJet last week said it was in talks with Boeing and Airbus to buy 75 new planes as manufacturers considered discounts in the wake of the September 11 attacks.
A Ryanair spokeswoman said yesterday that an increase of between 75 and 100 planes over the next five years was 'realistic', given the airline's growth plans.
The company advertised for used Boeing 737 aircraft last year. Ryanair carried over 10 million passengers last year and is expecting growth of 25% this year.
