As a special Christmas treat for all Love/Hate fans, and to mark the launch of this charity initiative, actor Peter Coonan who stars as ‘Fran’ in the series will make personal appearances on Saturday 7th December in Golden Discs Blanchardstown (from 11 – 12 noon ) and Easons in Dundrum Town Centre (from 2:30 – 3:30).
The Peter McVerry Trust http://www.pmvtrust.ie/ was established in 1983 to tackle homelessness, drug misuse and social disadvantage. It offers pathways out of homelessness based on the principles of the Housing First model and within a framework that is based on equal opportunities, dignity and respect. In 2012 the charity worked with 3,500 individuals of whom 74% were aged between 18-35. SARI http://www.sari.ie/ is an anti-racism NGO, which promotes and supports cultural integration and social inclusion through sport. Amongst its aims are to present sporting and cultural events that bring people together from different cultures and backgrounds, and to create opportunities for young people to participate in social integration projects at home and abroad. In addition they promote intercultural dialogue and celebrate cultural diversity through projects in schools.
“I’m delighted to be involved in raising money for both of these fantastic charities, which are really worthy causes, and hope all Love/Hate fans support both the Peter McVerry Trust and SARI and have a Coola Boola Christmas!”, Peter Coonan, (Fran), Love/Hate.
“On behalf of the Love/Hate Team we are delighted to be supporting the work of SARI and the Peter McVerry Trust – two charities close to our hearts, who are on the ground dealing with fast growing social issues in Ireland”, said Suzanne McAuley, Producer, Love/Hate.
“I’d like to thank Love/Hate for choosing to support our work with homeless youths. The money raised from this initiative will help Peter McVerry Trust provide emergency cold weather accommodation to rough sleepers during the Cold Weather Initiative which is running until March 2014.”, commented Fr. Peter McVerry.
“We are absolutely delighted to have the support of Love Hate. To be associated with the best Irish TV drama of all time is a great honour and will help spread the word about SARI’s work in promoting intercultural dialogue and celebrating cultural diversity”, said Perry Ogden, Chair, SARI.
The hats, which cost €4 each, will be available from Friday 6th December, in all Tesco stores, Golden Discs and Easons nationwide.
