3RD October 2013: RTÉ Digital; RTÉ TV and RTÉ Player received a #RaboTweeties Award in the #TweetieTV category for #roseoftralee held in Dublin last night. The #RaboTweeties celebrate Ireland’s best and brightest on Twitter. The Award in the #TweetieTV category, was for the favourite TV show or event users have tweeted to – the ‘second screen’ experience. There were hundreds of nominations across all 13 categories for the first #RaboDirect Tweeties with stiff competition for the final shortlist
This year’s campaign, which was multi-platform, included a bespoke digital programme from behind the scenes, and proved enormously successful across RTÉ’s social media platforms. Aided by the “proposal” which went viral from the RTÉ YouTube channel, hashtag #roseoftralee and #Proposal trended across Twitter. Maximising the impact of the hashtags, the RTÉ Player Twitter account live tweeted throughout both nights, amplifying the impact of key hashtags such as #roseoftralee, #redroom and #daithi.
Aoife Byrne, Director of Content & Products, RTÉ Digital said: “We are incredibly keen to nurture our audience’s engagement and campaigns such as #roseoftralee highlight the audience’s willingness to become a part of our programmes and immerse themselves and contribute to our content”.
“We’re delighted to have won against such strong competition,” commented Niamh Collins, Channel Manager, RTÉ Player. “Second screen complements everything we do in RTÉ, and it’s a natural extension of our content.
Live and on-demand streaming alone on RTÉ Player and RTÉ YouTube resulted in over 600,000 streams for the Rose of Tralee, a significant increase on figures from the previous year.
Your favourite TV show or event that you love to tweet along to? It’s called the ‘second screen’ experience. What would TV be without Twitter?
