Watch, Listen and Play on the refreshed RTÉjr website, the new RTÉjr app, or catch up with over 40 hours of children’s content on RTÉ Player on any given day
Play games, listen to stories, sing songs, make and colour, watch, play and listen back anywhere and at anytime with RTÉjr’s suite of digital services for parents, caregivers and children (0-7). Launching on April 15th, and complementing the broadcast channels, parents and caregivers can now choose from an abundance of digital material on the RTÉjr App , the newly refreshed RTÉjr website or the RTÉ Player which will provide over 40 hours of dedicated RTÉjr programming every day.
With over 100 newly-commissioned children’s stories, the opportunity to watch a wealth of children’s content on-line and on mobile or listen to a dedicated children’s radio channel, plus play interactive and educational games are key elements of RTÉ’s bespoke offering for the 0-7’s online, on-mobile.
This initiative stemmed from the appointment of Sheila de Courcy, previously Commissioning Editor for Young Peoples Programmes, as Cross Divisional Head of Children’s Content and an acknowledgement of the needs of the youngest audiences – often the earliest adopters of new technologies. RTÉjr App (iOS) was collaboratively produced by RTÉ Digital’s in-house Production and Operations team, the RTÉ TV Young People’s Online team and Marino Software, an Irish, but internationally-renowned children’s App designers, who have produced Apps such as Curious George, Apps for Sesame Street.
“Easy to use, interactive, educational and intuitive navigation features are married with a wealth of quality children’s indigenous Irish programming, allowing children, parents and caregivers to enjoy children’s content anytime and anywhere”, said Tom Grealis, Director of Production and Operations, RTÉ Digital. “Providing a 360 view of children’s programming across multiple platforms and devices allows RTÉjr to extend its reach and relevance, providing the tools for audiences to engage with us no matter where they are or what platform they are on”.
