21st December 2012, RTÉ.ie; For the first time, the New Year’s Event Countdown Concert, streamed live from Dublin exclusively by RTE, will be accessible via hundreds of connected devices from virtually anywhere on the globe. Wherever you are this New Year’s Eve, you can enjoy RTÉ’s coverage of New Year’s Eve Live – The Gathering, a spectacular live countdown from Dublin, headlined by Imelda May, live from 22.30 GMT. Friends and family abroad, or anyone on the move, can now “virtually” join in the fun and celebrations, and experience all the best moments of the Countdown Concert on www.rte.ie.
Featuring some of Ireland’s top musical and entertainment acts, audiences at home and abroad can enjoy the entertainment live or on demand, as the city of Dublin hosts the ultimate New Year’s Eve party. The coverage will be streamed live from College Green, hosted by Miriam O’Callaghan on RTÉ One, and John Creedon on RTÉ Radio 1. In addition, a bespoke New Year’s Eve homepage, RTÉ.ie, will feature live video links to RTÉ One and RTÉ Radio 1 coverage, as well as providing live updates throughout the evening.
Audiences can view or listen to the spectacular and soak up the atmosphere on mobile (iPhone, iPad, Android devices), on desktop, and on gaming devices from anywhere with internet connectivity.

About the event
RTÉ Television, RTÉ Radio and RTÉ.ie will ring in the New Year live from the NYE Dublin Countdown Concert in College Green, with headliner Imelda May and Bell X1 featuring at the event. On RTÉ One television, Miriam O’Callaghan will host a gathering of special guests as she broadcasts live from a purpose built studio in College Green capturing all of the key moments from the NYE Dublin Countdown Concert, as well as highlights from the NYE Dublin Festival including the People’s Procession of Light and the Big Bang Fireworks Spectacular. Aidan Power will be among the New Year’s Eve revellers, soaking up the atmosphere and reaction from the festival goers.
John Creedon will host the RTÉ Radio 1 gathering, as he’s joined by special guests live from the Countdown Concert, for an entertaining blend of chat and music, to take listeners through the evening and into the New Year.
New Year’s Eve Live – The Gathering begins on RTÉ Radio 1 at 10pm and RTÉ One television at 10.30pm, while RTÉ.ie will be the central hub for all of RTÉ’s coverage. NYE Dublin is the first event of the Gathering Ireland 2013, a year-long calendar of Gatherings, special festivals and events organised by the people of Ireland to celebrate all that is great about our country.
