9th October, 2012, RTÉ; RTÉ Digital announced today the launch of its newly re-designed RTÉ Player, Ireland’s leading on-demand and catch-up service.
“Allowing audiences to enjoy an even richer viewing experience than ever before – a fresh new layout, higher quality video streaming, a new sign in feature that allows you to watch programmes across multiple devices, improved social media integration as well as instant search and parental control are amongst the great new features launched today on RTÉ Player”, said Aisling McCabe, Director of Strategic Platforms and Partnerships, RTÉ Digital. “Today’s launch will significantly improve the viewing experience, as well as allowing audiences to view RTÉ content anywhere, anytime and on multiple devices, putting the viewer firmly in control”.

The new refreshed RTÉ Player launches in-tandem with RTÉ’s new season schedule, featuring shows such as The Fear a new risqué hidden camera show, The Gathering – Homeward Bound following six well-known Irish people returning to their roots, a new series of the gritty CIA drama Homeland, Instrumental a musical challenge show, as well as shows such as Masterchef Ireland, the biggest cooking competition on TV.
RTÉ Player offers quality viewing across multiple genres from young people’s content, current affairs and news – to drama, comedy, programmes of cultural and Irish interest as well as classics from the archives. On any given day, over 200 hours of content is available free of charge across multiple connected devices. Accessible via iPhones, iPod Touch, iPad, online, and on PS3 – in addition a version of RTÉ Player is also available on Samsung Connected TV’s and via UPC’s +7 day catch-up service.
