RTÉ Digital today announced in-line with RTÉ’s vision to ensure RTÉ content is available wherever and whenever the audience wants, that RTÉ Player, Ireland’s leading catch-up service*, will now be available on UPC. This is the first time RTÉ Player will be available on any cable network as an on-demand service.
From this Friday, RTÉ Player on UPC will host a selection of flagship RTÉ programmes from the previous seven days. Free of charge to over one third of homes in Dublin who have on-demand on their current UPC TV service, it will become available to the rest of UPC customers around the country throughout the summer and will reach over half a million Irish homes. In addition to RTÉ Player’s availability, RTÉ plans to launch Box sets on the UPC service over the coming months.
“This initiative is part of a number of key digital firsts for RTÉ,” said Aisling McCabe, Director of Strategic Platforms, Distribution & Partnerships, RTÉ Digital, “ It builds on the success of RTÉ Player which is already available on the web, iPhone, iPodTouch, iPad, and PS3 . Central to our strategy is to ensure audiences can enjoy RTÉ content anytime and anywhere. Our availability on UPC is another building-block in our digital strategy which expands the reach of RTÉ making it more relevant and accessible, and most importantly increases viewer choice”.
Giving audiences even more control over where and when they consume their programmes, viewers can now catch-up on a selection of their favourite content at their convenience on-demand via RTÉ Player on UPC.

Would it be possible to get ride of the annoying rte player logo on screen when I'm trying to watch tv!!!
I am an ex pat living in Sacramento,California USA.I want to thank RTE for the RTE Player and all their efforts to expand to a world wide audience.
I have had people with an "archaic" view of Ireland not only update their views on Ireland;become followers of RTE

Such a pity that subtitles for hard of hearing are NOT included digital platform. I cant understand why !. Surly it is possible, even netFlix offer such a service, and plus, most of the subtitles have already been written for the programs ?.
There should even be the option for a user to use their own subtitle file (for foreign people watching movies)

Thanks for the feedback Leo – it's great you are enjoying the service and appreciate you spreading the word! Great to see RTÉ Player is making a difference.
I think that it is great that this is now available on UPC. It certainly makes it much easier to access and watch in a convenient way as well as increasing the service offered by UPC
Thanks for your comments Daragh.
In response to your query, the RTÉ Player service was launched in 2009. Technical standards and solutions have emerged since then that make the subtitling of online programming a much more achievable goal. RTÉ is currently engaged with a number of suppliers with a view to implementing a solution that is compatible with RTÉ production systems and workflow. When a suitable solution is identified, RTÉ plans to develop a trial for this service. We envisage implementation of the trial will commence later this year.Thank you for your interest in this matter and we will keep you posted on developments as this project progresses.
Any hope that the RTE Player will be available on Sony's Internet TV Service? The 3 Player from TV3 has been available for some time on it
Hi James, we're always evaluating new platforms for our services. Right now the only Connected TV we are available on is Samsung, but we will certainly be looking at other manufacturers also in the future.
Just wondering why RTE player is currently not working on the internet? Thanks. Ruth
Hi Ruth – has this being resolved for you ?
Hi, just wondering what's wrpng wtih rte live player? Ever since format changed it doesn't work. Rte player for catch up is working fine. Thanks, Anna
The content that appears on UPC Player is governed by rights clearance and commercial agreements which differ to that of <a href="http://www.rte.ie/player” target=”_blank”>www.rte.ie/player. The bulk of RTÉ content will always be found online at <a href="http://www.rte.ie/player” target=”_blank”>www.rte.ie/player.
Hi Anna – what exactly is the issue. Thanks
