RTÉ Big Music Week: 30th September to 5th October

Welcome to RTÉ Big Music Week.

RTÉ Big Music Week was a huge success. Thousands of people around the country came out to celebrate the very best of home-grown musical talent, while hundreds of thousands tuned in on-air and online.

The RTÉ Big Music Week train travelled all over Ireland, showcasing the work of Irish songwriters, singers and musicians, with broadcasts across all of RTÉ’s services. RTÉ's week-long celebration of the best of Irish music . . . on Radio, Television, Online and on Mobile

Bright and early on a Monday morning, the bespoke, three-carriage RTÉ Big Music Week Train, with the Big Music Week House Band onboard, sets off on a very special one-week journey.

Departing from Bray, Co Wicklow and weaving its way through Wicklow, Dublin, Kildare, Carlow, Waterford, Tipperary, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Galway, Mayo, Leitrim and Roscommon, the train will be stopping off in train stations and towns across the country for impromptu busking sessions, live benefit concerts, musical workshops, parades and plenty of live radio broadcasts. Some of our finest artists, such as Kodaline, Christy Moore, Luka Bloom will be jamming in stations, busking onboard and marching down main streets.

Radio

Through the week, your favourite shows will be following the RTÉ Big Music Week train to bring you live performances from some of Ireland’s finest musical artists.

Opening the week’s celebrations, The John Murray Show on RTÉ Radio 1 will be coming live from Connolly Station to bring you a special performance from the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and top acts including Kodaline, Damien Dempsey and Luka Bloom.

The John Creedon Show, also on RTÉ Radio 1, will be live on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, broadcasting concerts from the Theatre Royal in Waterford, the INEC in Killarney and Matt Molloy’s pub in Westport, Co Mayo, with exclusive performances from Eleanor McEvoy, Lumiere, Sharon Shannon and Mundy, to name just a few.

Wednesday morning sees Ryan Tubridy in Limerick for a live show with Hermitage Green, who will stop by for a session in the station.

RTÉjr

Each day, during RTÉ Big Music Week, RTÉjr will brinh you a wealth of programmes that show the grá young Irish people have for music, not to mention the talent! Don’t miss brand-new series Meet the Orchestra and Sing-along, returning favourites, Hubble and the Beo Show on RTÉjr Television as well as Musical Chairs, on RTÉjr Radio

Each evening, you can catch an update of the day’s events on RTÉ One. Keep an eye out for the special nightly recap programme. Keep an eye out too for very special RTÉ Big Music Week updates on Nationwide and The Works on RTÉ One.

For the grand finale on Friday night, the RTÉ Big Music Week Train will reach the end of the line with a very special performance on the The Late Late Show, debuting a specially-commissioned RTÉ Big Music Week song, written by Irish songwriter Brendan Graham and performed by some of Ireland’s best vocalists.
