Irish star joins blockbuster Thor

Irish actor Stuart Townsend has joined the cast of the upcoming film version of Marvel Comics' 'Thor'.

Variety reports that the film will be directed by Belfast-born Kenneth Branagh with Townsend, Ray Stevenson and Tadanobu Asano set to play The Warriors Three, who fight alongside Norse god Thor (Chris Hemsworth).

The cast of the film also includes Anthony Hopkins, Samuel L Jackson and Natalie Portman.

'Thor' is due to begin shooting in January and will be released in May 2011.
