Neighbours star wants EastEnders role

'Neighbours' star Alan Fletcher has said that he would like to join the cast of 'EastEnders'.

The Press Association reports that the actor, who plays Dr Karl Kennedy in the Australian soap, said: "If and when 'Neighbours' finishes for me you'll probably see me here on these fair shores because I have the ability to work here and feel an enormous connection with [the] English TV and theatre world."

He continued: "There are some terrific shows here. Anne Charleston [who played Madge Bishop in 'Neighbours'] did 'Emmerdale' for a while and she loved that experience."

When asked what soap he'd choose, Fletcher said: "Probably 'EastEnders'. I'd like to be in 'EastEnders' if I could play a cockney. I'd have to try and pull off a genuine East London accent."
