Depp and Bale bonded over fatherhood

Actor Johnny Depp has revealed he bonded with Christian Bale over fatherhood.

The two actors co-star in 'Public Enemies' but are bitter rivals on-screen, with father-of-two Johnny playing 30s gangster John Dillinger and dad-of-one Christian starring as FBI agent Melvin Purvis.

Johnny said: "Where Christian and I spent most of our time when we saw each other, which wasn't very much, we talked about our kids - we talked about being dads and that's where we really connected."

The 46-year-old 'Pirates Of The Caribbean' pin-up has high praise for his co-star.

"Obviously he's a gifted and talented actor," he said.

"I enjoyed it, basically our one scene together when he and his cronies croaked me outside the Biograph, it was like a great sparring match, it was just two guys in there with a similar respect for one another and trying to present different angles to one another."

'Public Enemies' is now showing in cinemas nationwide.

The performances are outstanding throughout, with Robert Donnelly's Eamon, a wonderfully creepy creation amid the triumvirate of increasingly tortured souls.

Some brilliant moments but sadly, for a film about losing your virginity, it doesn't go all the way.
