Springsteen and Joel gig for Obama

Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel are to play at the same concert for the first time in a benefit gig for Democratic Party US Presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

The gig will take place on 16 October at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom. Other performers have yet to be announced but tickets will cost from $500 to $10,000.

Obama raised a record $66 million (€46.2m) in August, adding 500,000 new donors.

Reuters and Billboard also report that Springsteen, who backed Obama six months ago, is also set to play the Super Bowl halftime show - a huge event in the US - on 1 February. Joel is set to embark on a tour of China, Australia, Japan and New Zealand later in the same month.
