CSI star Dourdan avoids jail

CSI star Gary Dourdan will avoid jail over drug charges thanks to a guilty plea to cocaine and ecstasy possession and an agreement to attend treatment classes.

The actor attended a California court facing controlled substance felony charges after having been arrested on suspicion of possessing heroin, cocaine, ecstasy and prescription drugs last month.

Charges related to the heroin possession were dismissed and Dourdan, 41, must complete a 16-class drug programme, after which the remaining charges will be dropped.

Dourdan was arrested in Palm Springs, California, in April after he was found asleep his incorrectly parked car and police found controlled substances during a search of his vehicle.

The actor told reporters: "Obviously, I am embarrassed to find myself in this situation and I am profoundly grateful to everyone for their support."
