E Street band member dies at 58

Bruce Spingsteen's keyboard player and E Street band member Danny Federici has died, aged 58.

Federici, a founding member of Springsteen's backing group, passed away at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre yesterday afternoon.

He last performed with Springsteen during a show at Indianapolis on 20 March and had been ill since late last year. Federici, who grew up in Flemington, New Jersey, met the singer in the '60s.

Paying tribute to his bandmate, Springsteen said: "Danny and I worked together for 40 years - he was the most wonderfully fluid keyboard player and a pure natural musician. I loved him very much...we grew up together."

Springsteen has postponed two shows at Fort Laurdale and Orlando that were due to take place this weekend.
