McGregor and Carrey to play lovers

Ewan McGregor is to star opposite Jim Carrey in a new dark comedy called 'I Love You Phillip Morris'.

Variety reports that the film marks the directorial debut of 'Bad Santa' screenwriters Glenn Ficarra and John Requa.

Based on real events, the film tells the story of a con artist (Carrey) who fell in love with his cellmate (McGregor) while in jail in Texas and escaped on four separate occasions.

He is currently serving a 144-year sentence.

Production on the film will begin in the spring.
