Madonna nominated for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Madonna is among the nominees for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year.

Billboard reports that to be eligible for the 2008 ceremony artists had to release their first single no later than 1982.

Madonna is joined on the 2008 shortlist by Leonard Cohen, the Beastie Boys, Donna Summer, Chic, John Mellencamp, the Dave Clark Five, the Ventures and Afrika Bambaataa.

Five acts will be chosen for induction at next year's ceremony, which takes place at New York's Waldorf Astoria on 10 March.
