Hudson joins Sex and the City movie

'Dreamgirls' star and Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson has joined the cast of the eagerly-awaited 'Sex and the City: The Movie'.

Variety reports that the former 'American Idol' contestant will play Carrie Bradshaw's (Sarah Jessica Parker) assistant in the film.

Shooting on the film begins in New York on 19 September.

It reunites Parker with her TV co-stars Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Chris Noth.

Michael Patrick King, who executive produced the series, has written and will direct the film.
