Lawsuit filed over Dirty Dancing line
Lionsgate film studio has filed a trademark infringement lawsuit over a line in 1987 hit movie 'Dirty Dancing'.
The suit has been filed against companies selling merchandise featuring the phrase "Nobody puts Baby in a corner".
It claims that 15 companies including Uncommongoods.com in New York, Lucky Lou Boutique in Indiana, and Duck Duck Goose in Ohio, have used Lionsgate's registered trademark without permission.
Lionsgate markets and sells a line of official merchandise featuring the movie trademark.
The line, used by Patrick Swayze to Jennifer Grey at the film's dramatic climax, has become instantly recognisable.
The cult classic follows the Houseman family as they go on holiday to the Kellerman resort, where their youngest daughter (nicknamed Baby) falls in love with a hunky dance teacher from the wrong side of the tracks.
In 2005 the American Film Institute voted "Nobody puts Baby in a corner" as one of the top 100 movie quotations in American cinema.
A stage version of 'Dirty Dancing' is currently running on London's West End.
