Spielberg and Jackson to make Tintin films

Directors Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson have announced that they are teaming up to direct and produce three films based on Georges Remi's classic comic character Tintin.

Variety reports that the two men will each direct one of the films with the director for the third yet to be announced.

All the films will be made in digital 3-D using performance capture technology.

Commenting, Spielberg said: "We want Tintin's adventures to have the reality of a live-action film, and yet Peter and I felt that shooting them in a traditional live-action format would simply not honour the distinctive look of the characters and world that Hergé [Remi's pen name] created."

The trade daily says Spielberg has been trying to get the rights to bring Tintin to the big screen for over 25 years and that the three films will be based on three adventures from Remi's 'The Adventure's of Tintin' series.
