Praise for Pete Doherty at drug hearing

At a review of a drug treatment order in London yesterday, Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty was praised by the judge for his co-operation.

The 28-year-old singer told the court and District Judge Jane McIvor that he was "quite keen to show a negative test as soon as possible."

"The people I'm closest to have had enough. They say it's drugs or them," he added.

He was ordered to take part in a treatment programme after admitting drug possession charges in April 2006.

Doherty has repeatedly sought treatment for drug addiction in Britain, France and Thailand.
