Robert Altman Remembered

  • The death of veteran film director Robert Altman was announced earlier today. He died at the age of 81 in a Los Angeles hospital. A Hollywood maverick renowned for his improvisational style, he directed such acclaimed films as 'MASH', 'Nashville', 'Short Cuts' and 'Gosford Park'. On tonight's show, we discuss Altman's work with writer and radio host Garrison Keillor, whose book 'A Prairie Home Companion' was brought to the big screen by Altman earlier this year.

Less Than A Year

  • As part of its studio initiative, Limerick's Island Theatre Company is presenting the world premiere of 'Less Than A Year' by local writer and drama teacher Helena Enright. This documentary-style play, where real events have informed the writing, tells the story of a couple whose teenage daughter finally succumbs to Ewing's Sarcoma, a form of pelvic cancer. Seán Rocks went to the final rehearsal to find out more about the play and to meet its author.

The Moon Cut Like A Sickle

  • The Do You Playhouse is a Mayo-based initiative for the promotion of youth theatre. Its latest production is entitled 'The Moon Cut Like a Sickle'. Written by Ken Armstrong and directed by Don Ruane, it deals with young drivers and the dangers of speeding. Pierce O'Reilly went to the play to find out more about it.
