Madonna adoption child leaves Malawi

The one-year-old Malawian boy that singer Madonna hopes to adopt has left his home country in a small private jet.

According to reports, the 13-month-old child, who is named David Banda, left Malawi in the company of one of Madonna's bodyguards.

The child is believed to be travelling to Johannesburg on board the flight.

Earlier today, human rights groups said that they were planning to file an application asking Malawi's High Court to block the adoption.

According to Malawian law, non-residents cannot adopt children there but the High Court of the country granted an exemption to Madonna and her husband Guy Ritchie.

The couple left Malawi last week but the boy did not leave with them because he did not have a passport.

Children's rights group, Eye of the Child, said earlier: "They (government) haven't followed the law. What has happened is a shortcut."
