Madonna adopts one-year-old African boy

Pop singer Madonna has adopted a one-year-old African boy, according to the child's father.

The report comes just a week after the singer's representatives denied that she was travelling to Malawi to adopt a child.

The adoption has not yet been confirmed by officials in either Africa or the UK but tabloid reports have quoted the boy's father as confirming the news.

According to The Sun, Yohane Banda said that he was told that his son was being adopted by a "famous US musician".

"I am very happy. As you can see there is poverty in my village," he said.

"I know he will be very happy in America. We are told David will be coming back regularly to know his roots."

The boy's mother died of complications after giving birth.
