U2 sign copies of new book in Dublin

Hundreds of U2 fans braved the elements in Dublin yesterday to get a glimpse of the band members who were signing copies of their new book at Eason's on O'Connell Street.

But only 250 competition winners were being allowed entry to the shop where the band members signed copies of 'U2 by U2'.

Tickets were allocated to winners of radio competitions and a contest on the band's official website.

The book contains exclusive interviews with, and pictures of, the band.

In the book, it is suggested that Bono may take a back seat in global politics. However, Bono says he is using his celebrity to highlight world issues that politicians should be dealing with.

Earlier this week Bono spoke out about Darfur, AIDS and global poverty.

As is the nature with albums as diverse as this in style and contributors, 'Plastic Beach' can be patchy in parts, but the sheer versatility and depth of this sprawling work are its saviours.

Beautifully recorded without taking the grit out of the songs

Whether warming or giving the chills, McMorrow sounds like someone to stick with for the long haul.

Once word of mouth gets around membership will swell and the Bangor lads will have to think about moving things to a much bigger venue.
