Irish singer is Australian Idol finalist

Irish singer Damien Leith is currently third favourite to be crowned 'Australian Idol', after making the final ten of the show.

The 30-year-old pharmacist, who hails from Milltown in Co Kildare, now lives in Sydney.

According to bookmakers Centrebet, Leith is now at odds of 6-1 to win the show outright.

Centrebet spokesperson Gerard Daffy said: "There's no reason to think an Irish singer cannot win this year's 'Aussie Idol'. After all, an Irish footballer (Tadhg Kennelly) won last year's Aussie Rules title."
