Keira Knightley cast in Atonement

Keira Knightley has been cast in the Focus Features/Working Title production of Ian McEwan's Booker Prize-nominated novel, 'Atonement'.

Knightley was Oscar-nominated for her performance in last year's 'Pride & Prejudice', the director of which - Joe Wright - is set to helm 'Atonement'.

The book is about hyper-imaginative 13-year-old Briony (Saoirse Ronan) who falsely accuses her older sister's boyfriend (James McAvoy) of assaulting their cousin.

Knightley is to take the role of Briony's sister, Cecilia.

It follows the characters from 1935, through World War II, to the end of the 20th century.

Vanessa Redgrave, Brenda Blethyn and Romola Garai also star.
