Louis le Brocquy exhibition opening today
A major exhibition featuring the work of Irish artist Louis le Brocquy is due to go on public display at the Hunt Museum in Limerick this evening.
The exhibition features over 50 works, mainly drawn from private collections in Ireland, the UK and Portugal. Many are being assembled on public view for the first time.
The works done in the 1940s and 1950s include a selection from the well known 'Tinkers of Travellers' series including 'Travelling Woman with Newspaper' and 'Travellers Making Twig Sign'.
The exhibition also includes 'Man Creating Bird', 'In Fear of Cain' and 'Army Massing', as well as the Eden Tappestries, the Procession Paintings and the Cuchulainn Tapestries.
The exhibition is the biggest being undertaken to celebrate le Brocquy's 90th year, and was curated by his son Pierre and Virgina Teehan, Director of the Hunt Museum.
