John Spillane to play Cork Opera House

Meteor Award-winner John Spillane will play a homecoming gig at the Cork Opera House on Saturday 22 April.

The native Corkonian won the Best Folk/Trad category at last month's Meteor Awards ceremony.

His third solo album 'Hey Dreamer' was released in April last year.

Sean Keane has recorded three of Spillane's songs on his new album 'The Valley of the Heart' while Sharon Shannon recorded 'All the Way's You Wander' on her latest album.

Spillane is also the host of RTÉ 1 series 'Chúrsaí Ceoil', which covers Irish music over the past 25 years, and presents a weekly RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta programme called 'Rogha'.

This month he plays gigs in Scotland, London and Brighton with Capercaillie vocalist Karen Matheson as well as a selection of dates around the country (14 March - Dunamaise Arts Centre, Portlaoise; 15 March - Mary Immaculate College, Limerick; 16 March - St Mary's Secondary School, Macroom; 19 March - Old Ground Hotel, Ennis).

Tickets for his show at the Cork Opera House are ¤25.
