Madonna smashes record in UK charts

Madonna has smashed the record to become the female artist with the most Number One singles in the UK charts.

'Sorry', which hit the top spot last Sunday, was the Queen of Pop's twelfth UK Number One single.

She first reached Number One in the UK chart over 20 years ago with 'Into the Groove', in July 1985.

Melanie C previously held the record, with 11 Number One UK singles, including her Spice Girls hits.

'Sorry', Madonna's sixtieth UK hit, is the second track to be released from her latest album, 'Confessions On A Dance Floor'.

Elvis Presley had 21 UK Number Ones and The Beatles 17, holding the record for recording artist and band.

Among Madonna's other Number One singles were 'Papa Don't Preach', 'True Blue', 'La Isla Bonita', 'Who's That Girl', 'Like A Prayer', 'Vogue', 'Frozen', 'American Pie', 'Music' and 'Hung Up'.
