Gerard Depardieu set to quit acting?

French actor Gerard Depardieu has said that he is planning on quitting acting in the near future.

Speaking to Le Parisien Dimanche newspaper, Depardieu said: "I'm in the process of stopping filming. I'm a guy who's leaving."

"I have nothing to lose," the 56-year-old actor said in the interview. "I have done 170 films. I have nothing left to prove."

The actor's agent, however, said that the comments should not be taken at face value and that Depardieu most likely meant that he would be making fewer films in the coming years.

The actor had by-pass surgery five years ago and has since concentrated on other projects, as well as acting. He recently wrote a cookbook and bought two restaurants in Paris.
