U2 pick up gong at World Music Awards

U2 picked up the award for the World's Best-Selling Rock Artist at the World Music Awards in Hollywood last night.

Destiny's Child, Mariah Carey and Eminem were also amongst the winners at the event, which is usually staged in Monaco.

Mariah Carey picked up three awards at the ceremony, being named World's Best-Selling R&B Artist, World's Best-Selling Female Artist, and Female Entertainer of the Year.

R&B singer Usher collected the award for Male Entertainer of the Year and Rapper 50 Cent was named World's Best-Selling Pop Male Artist.

Rapper Eminem claimed the awards for World's Best-Selling Artist in the Pop/Rock category and in the Rap/Hip-Hop category. The Rolling Stones were named World's Best-Selling Touring Act of All Time.

The members of girl group Destiny's Child, who are due to go their separate ways soon, were also big winners. The group picked up the awards for World's Best-Selling Group, in the Pop and R&B categories, and World's Best-Selling Female Group of All Time.

The Game claimed the award for Best-Selling New Male Artist and Gwen Stefani was triumphant in the category of Best-Selling New Female Artist.

The World Music Awards are based on record sales, which are certified by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry.
